Today the Commonwealth Attorney General, the Hon Christian Porter MP announced the appointment of Mr Guy Andrew as a judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.
Mr Andrew will be Townsville’s full-time resident judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, commencing on 25 March 2019.
The Federal Circuit Court is Australia’s busiest federal court and deals with the majority of all family law applications in Australia.
Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia and Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Hon Will Alstergren welcomes the announcement of much needed judicial resources that will benefit people in the Townsville community who need assistance in the resolution of their family law dispute.
“I am delighted to welcome Mr Andrew who will be assigned to the Townsville registry on a full-time basis, replacing Judge Middleton who will now transfer to the Brisbane registry.
“I wish to also take this opportunity to thank Judge Middleton for the outstanding job he has done managing the Townsville registry since May last year, as well as assisting in other locations when required.
“The Federal Circuit Court has always been committed to servicing the Townsville region, with a full-time resident judge having been in place since the court opened its doors in 2000. In addition, the Federal Circuit Court conducts an extensive circuit program in many regional towns to ensure that people living in rural and regional locations have access to the justice system for their family law disputes,’ Chief Justice Alstergren said.
“I look forward to moving to Townsville with my wife Nicole and we expect to love our experience. I will do my best to dispense justice in family law matters for the citizens of North Queensland,” Mr Andrew said.
